Spring Flowers in Season in Melbourne: A Florist's Guide

Spring is the most exciting season in a Melbourne flower studio. After winter, the markets fill with soft, romantic blooms. Here are the flowers we look forward to most from September to November.

Tulips

Early spring brings tulips in every colour. Their clean, simple shape makes them perfect on their own, like our Tulip Galore bouquet. Tulips keep growing in the vase and gently bend towards the light.

Ranunculus

Layer upon layer of paper-thin petals. Ranunculus are a favourite in pastel bouquets and bridal work, and they last well in the vase.

Peonies

The most anticipated flower of the year. In Victoria, peony season usually runs from late October into December, and it is short, so order early. See our Peony Affection bouquet when in season.

Sweet peas and lilac

Both are beautifully fragrant and bring a nostalgic, garden feel. Lilac is a natural fit with our Lilac Wonder palette.

Australian natives

Spring is also peak time for many natives, including waratah and wax flower. They are hardy, long-lasting and full of texture, as in our Native Bloom bouquet.

Why seasonal flowers are better

Flowers in season are fresher, last longer and are better value. That's why our florists design around what's best at the market each week, and why some arrangements may vary slightly from the photo.
